Screen saver does not start after period of inactivity

Hello.

I have full install of Slack 12.2 on a Lenovo T60. I am using KDE 3.5.10. Under the Screen Saver section of KDesktop I have the the screesaver to start automatically after 5 min. However, the screen saver does not start after 5 minutes.

Is the screen saver request an ACPI event that requires a handler and action defined? If so, what is the event?

Are you using an OpenGL screen saver but do not have 3D direct rendering support enabled?

As a simple test, try using the basic Blank Screen screensaver. In KDE you can invoke the screensaver without a timeout by locking the screen. If you are not using the Lock/Logout buttons, the default keyboard shortcut is Ctrl-Alt-L.

Well, I am using an OpenGL screen saver that works when I start it manually.

Note: I have had trouble getting direct DRI to work correctly, so it uses indirect. With direct, the window borders become corrupted after the screen saver.

I will try a non-OpenGL screen saver and see what happens.

Interesting, the blank screen saver did activate automatically.
