Scanner not detected in slack10
Hi all,
My scanner is not working in slackware 10.0. When I start xsane it says "No devices detected"
But in Slackware 9.1 it worked without any issues.
In knoppix 3.7, xsane and kooka, pickup the scanner without any issues aswell.
But in slackware 10.0 xsane says 'No devices detected'
sane-find-scanner gives this output
"root@darkstar:~# sane-find-scanner
# No SCSI scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a SCSI driver for your SCSI adapter.
# No USB scanners found. If you expected something different, make sure that
# you have loaded a driver for your USB host controller and have installed a
# kernel scanner module.
# Not checking for parallel port scanners.
# Most Scanners connected to the parallel port or other proprietary ports
# can't be detected by this program.
root@darkstar:~# "
Is it possible that the kernel was changed and the USB is not ioncluded for some reason. I'm not familiar with Slack but if the kernel doesn't have the USB loaded as a module or compiled in, it won't see anything USB.
You may want to try the command lsusb. I'm not sure if it is the same as Gentoo but it lists all the devices it sees on the USB port.
I had this problem with my Epson 1250. I removed the xsane package and downloaded/replaced it with the earlier package from Slack 9.1. Everything worked fine. Worth a try?
I just got my scanner working under linux.
My config is as follows:
-Epson 1650 Perfection Scanner
-Kernel 2.6.9
-Slackware 10.0
-I used libusb so I didn't have to install any kernel modules
-The usbfs must be mounted
See The Linux Documentation Project for all the details scanner-howto
Try unplugging your scanner and pluggin it back in. I have have a similar issue, and it seems that it is common. The only solutions I have found so far have been permission hacks in /etc/rc.d/rc.local.
If an plug out then plug in works, and don't work at boot time (coldplug), this is probably a matter of timing when sane set permissions
i've posted an explanation and workaround in this post
You need to make sure that you have the "libusbscanner" script in /etc/hotplug/usb if you have made a scanner group and have made yourself a member of that group.
The other issue is that the scanner module was moved out of the kernel to user space with libusb.
The system can get confused if you use both the kernel module and libusb. If lsmod shows the scanner module and you have libusb you can either recompile the kernel or blacklist the scanner module
