scandinavian characters

hi all,

Ive had a look around and cant seem to find easy info on how to make scandinavian characters appear.

I have a couple of icelandic band's albums which have these characters (u with a accent on it etc) in their names and song titles but the characters show up as ? or a box etc....in the filename.

How can i view these?

i tried xontsel as i found out i need to use the iso8859-1 character set, but i dont really know what to do.

I then got gtkfontsel and applied a iso8859-1 filter (im guessing this only allows fonts with this convention to show up but anyhow....im confused any pointers.

really all i wnat to do is keep the font like it is now (dont know what it is....nor how to tell which one is selected) and make the scandinavian characters show up......but if someone actually knows how to be able to type these letters (perhaps like u can in windows by doing alt+a combination of the numpad numbers) then this would be much welcome too.

cheers.

To add regional keyboard layout, on KDE you go to Control Center > Regional .... > Keyboard Layout. Just add a layout for your country there (you can play with "basic" "se" and "no-dead-keys" options to arrive to your desired ways to put in accents.)

To view accented characters: several things here:
- if the drive is FAT32 or iso9660 - you need a proper mounting option for the language.
- You need to configure your environment for the language. (I sense you use Gnome - so I cant help you here.)
