SATA hard disk and linux

does slackware support SATA harddisks? i have a new one and a SATA controller for the motherboard. how would i get slack to recognize these? do i need a kernel patch?

Might be interesting for you to read..
Deals with sata and installing it with custom kernel and all, not alot of info but good description of booting off a custom kernel.. might want to try searching the forum for your question.

I'm in a different situation. I have a normal everyday run of the mill boot drive (IDE 6 GB) but am using an 80GB SATA drive for my data drive.

Um... How do I get to it to partition and format it?????

I'll post my gazillion other questions elsewhere... :)
