Samanata font in aterm

I use Samanata with size 7 for my GTK theme and I'm absolutely loving it. ( http://tinyurl.com/2wn736 )

Recently, I switched from xterm to aterm and on top of using the transparency, I decided to also make the fonts look better. Since I use Samanata for my GTK theme I decided to use it for aterm as well.

I look up the definition:

Code:
me@alkos333_TPT60:~$ xlsfonts | grep samanata
-microsoft-samanata-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-iso10646-1
Then I add the following line to my ~/.Xdefaults:

Code:
*-Samanata-medium-r-normal-*-*-*-*
It changes the font to Samanata next time I open aterm, however, the font size is huge: http://tinyurl.com/35rl2f

If I try changing either the pixel or the point size in the definition above, aterm just uses a default tiny font. When I change those back to '*', it uses Samanata, but with huge font size again.

How do I get the font size to be the same size in aterm as it is in the GTK theme?

I don't have any experience with this, but these 2 postings may be of some assistance:

Switched to mrxvt

I just switched to mrxvt and things seem to be working a bit better, but still far from ideal. Here is what the font looks like in mrxvt:

http://tinyurl.com/336zxb

Here's my mrxvtrc:

Code:
    mrxvt.loginShell: true
    mrxvt.background: black
    mrxvt.foreground: white
    mrxvt.scrollBar: false
    #mrxvt.font: -*-terminal-medium-r-normal-*-14-*-*-*-*-*-iso 8859-*
    mrxvt.xft: true
    mrxvt.xftAntialias: true
    mrxvt.xftFont: Samanata
    mrxvt.xftSize: 7
    mrxvt.hideButtons: true
    mrxvt.macro.Ctrl+t: NewTab
    mrxvt.macro.Ctrl+w: Close 0 \! cd $HOME
As you can see the font isn't exactly 7 pixels like it is here, in Xchat: http://tinyurl.com/2q4l8c

There are also huge spaces between the letters.

I've found this problem with trying to use many fonts in xterm/mrxvt etc. Not found any solution. I just picked ones that worked.

I emailed the list and got the following response:

Quote:
Your font doesn't look like a fixed width font. If the font is not a
fixed width font, mrxvt draws the font character by character, as if it
is a fixed width font.

Terminal emulators require a fixed width font...
