Salix/ZenWalk/VectorLinux

OK... so I have an Acer laptop running Win Vista Professional. I would like to replace Win with a derivative of Slackware and I was looking at the folllowing 3:

- Salix
- Zenwalk
- Vector Linux

Which one do you guys would recommend? I will be probably going to do like a full install but eventually I would like run Enlightenment as the win manager. What I'm looking for is easy to perform updates, eye candy, easy to do wireless config, etc...

Any info would be appreciated.

It's not a derivative. Just plain Slackware, with about 170 extra packages, a set of tagfiles and a nice default configuration.

I've taken all three for a test run and if I had to choose one of them I would go with Salix. Honestly though Slackware 14.1 itself is your best bet. If you find the prospect of installing Slackware daunting you could always practice the installation process inside of Virtualbox on your acer laptop.

I'm not real familiar with Salix but I've used both ZenWalk and Vector extensively, I actually still use Vector on a couple systems.
Both Vector and Zenwalk are good systems, I didn't have the best luck with the 7.2 release of Zenwalk so I wouldn't really recommend that release, however 7.4 should be released soon and I'll certainly give it a try myself.
Vector is very stable and has been a favorite of mine since 2007, I recommend the standard version though rather than the SOHO version.
If you're planning to run Enlightenment I'd really recommend using Slackware proper and getting Enlightenment from the Slacke17 project.

http://slacke17.sourceforge.net/

I ran it on my Slackware box up until I upgraded to 14.1 and now thanks to you post I see they've updated it for 14.1 so I'll be installing it soon myself, I still don't like kde4.

I've always had a weakness for Zenwalk, but in the last years this projects always hobbles along in comparison with Salix.
So, if you want a derivate of Slackware, I suggest Salix.

I wanted to update this post... Zenwalk just came up with a new release. The new release is 7.4 The announcement date was February 13, 2014.
I've been running the Beta version under Virtualbox and I really like it. I'm downloading the 7.4 version right now. I will be replacing the Beta version with this new version. I will let you know how it runs in the next few days.

SalixOS would be a good place to start. It's more or less vanilla Slackware with dependency resolution added in. It's really nice actually. I think it uses gslapt and slapt-get for package management.

Salix for the lazy Slacker. Or just use Slackware.
