safety first with kernelupgrade, but how?
 

Hello people :)

i have a question regarding the kernel upgrade. Something is not completely clear to me when it come to preparation before upgrading kernel. till now, when upgrading kernel i always just upgraded the source and compiled a new kernel.

Recently i upgraded that way when moving to 2.4.23. But, right now i have a nice kernel, no errormessages when booting, all my hardware works fine. And, ofcourse when something goes wrong when upgrading to 2.6.0 i don't wanna lose that.

the main question is:

how to make sure that when i upgrade to 2.6.0, and something doesn't work out fine, that i can easily go back to the previous kernel. btw, i know i can add that kernel to my lilo.. but what i am more worried about, and what happend to me before, is that when i wanted to use the "old" kernel, i got all kinds of module errors when booting it.

hardware : athlonXP 1500+, 512MB pc2100, maxtor 80GB_8mbcache, geforce MX440se_64ddr, and some other crap ;)

module errors?
where are your modules installed to?
they should be in /lib/moules/<kernel-version>
i've never had a problem, i boot 2.4.23 and 2.6.0 stable
which reminds me, i've got an old kernel to delete

and the 2.6 kernel is better for me, performance-wise, i got a 10FPS boost in quake3
