S/390 link in slackware.com/ports page links to porn

WARNING: Don't open the link at work!

Just noticed that the S/390 link in the http://www.slackware.com/ports/ page points to a porn page. It would probably be better if it was removed.

captain_sensible 10-02-2019 10:35 AM

yep i can confirm that ; certainly never seen that in slasckware docs before !

3rensho 10-02-2019 11:19 AM

I think the OP was referring to the link on the left that says S/390 (I don't recommend clicking on it)

Jeebizz 10-02-2019 02:59 PM

well that didn't take long for the s390 link to disappear (thankfully), just hopefully when it is back up it doesn't go to a porn site , wew.

Jeebizz 10-02-2019 03:04 PM

Oh I think it is safe to mark this as solved btw :)

dugan 10-02-2019 03:08 PM

I guess that means the S/390 Slackware port is dead?

It's been effectively dead for quite a few years now (afaik).

Here, the link is still there and still links to the porn site.

It looks like the domain (slack390.org) was genuine, but recently expired and was not renewed. Some "smart" guy just purchased the domain and used it for his business.

See the domain DNS history attached.

Mark Pettit 10-02-2019 03:35 PM

Well - while someone has gone to the trouble of fixing it, they might as well fix the "freshmeat" link under "Other Sites" - it's defunct. Can rather use "http://freshcode.club/".

Umm, it is back going to a .org but it still uh ...goes to that porn site.

-edit

Since s390 is a dead project, maybe just remove it entirely at this point?

Jeebizz 10-02-2019 03:54 PM

Refreshed, and now s390 is gone thankfully.

Why to warn? There are thousands of similar sites all over the network. Before reading this post I didn't even know such website exists. Meanwhile most of us are adults. Warn who? Those who watch such thing wolud be even interested to go to this site. But whatever. This must be coincidence with some slang word which meaning is clear for people who use this word or abbreviation. What kind of really stupid person could decide to put porn on all Slackware web cite? Is it kind of revenge? Displeased and disappointed Slackware user. Porn cite aimed at Slackware users. Sound like joke of the month.

When domains are not renewed, they're - without exception, in my experience - renewed by companies - usually to sell them back to the previous 'owner', or to use them to place advertising on whilst the domain/host name still has SEO value. Web sites linked from slackware.com have (at least when I was told ~2 years ago) have inherited SEO because slackware.com has been around for so long and is linked from many sites.

Do you really think this was intentional?

I remember slack 390 - and I remember the maintainer, who is still active elsewhere.

igadoter 10-03-2019 10:15 AM

What was slack 390? Now information is lost. Cite is being occupied men women earning their livings in particular but seems rather popular way. So what is Slackware 390?

Let me google that for you: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IBM_System/390 Indeed that was Slackware for this kind of machine's architecture.

dugan 10-03-2019 11:33 AM

Slackware 390 was Slackware for IBM mainframes.

What obviously happened was that the project died, the domain was allowed to expire, and a porn site bought the domain.

I'm surprised that nobody brought up Rule 34 yet.

You know about the Wayback Machine?

Just go to web.archive.org and punch in the URL whose site you want to see an earlier version of
