Unhappy Runlevel 4 & textmode logins

Sir,

I've got slackware9.1 installed. I've switched it to start in runlevel 4, ie start the Gnome Display Manager login. That's good, but where have all the text mode logins gone? I use these atleast as much, especially for compiling etc and like to be able to switch between all six of them AND X.

How do I get them back without switching back to run level 3?

Boris Mc Hack.

You can still use ctrl+alt+f6, I'm not sure how you'd go about getting all of them back though.

edit your /etc/inittab

scroll down until the line :

c1:1235:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux
-- add 4 to the list of runlevel :
c1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty 38400 tty1 linux

and do the same for the 5 next line. You're done, run level 4 and get 6 ttys

Thumbs up

Aha, it seems so easy when you know how!

Cheers,

Boris Mc Hack

-- Now I've just done as you said, looking at the inittab, it seems bleedin obvious, I even wondered what the extra 4 was on tty6, duh!

No post in this forum ends by "no way" or "impossible"

You can also switch your runlevel with telinit 3 or whatever you need.

Hey that cool I never knew how to do that. Always thought it would be nice though cause I use the command line more than I do any of the GUI tools but I like it to boot straight into KDE. Thanks alot, works great.
