RTL8191SEvB support in -current?

Hi all -

I have gotten frustrated with Debian on my System76 netbook & would like to replace this with Slack -current, but I wanted to know whether (after the Aug 25 update of the kernel-firmware package) the RTL8191SEvB wireless interface might be supported out of the box ...

If not, I guess it's not too difficult to download the source from Realtek, etc., but I just thought I'd ask.

Thanks and happy weekend,

Glenn

I'm reasonably certain I have the same wireless card in my Laptop (can't check right now), but I had to compile the driver from realtek in Slackware. You can easily make a proper Slackware package using src2pkg.

I have slackbuilds for that (8192se is the name of the driver, works for 8191se too):
https://github.com/cycojesus/slackbu...er/a/rtl8192se
https://github.com/cycojesus/slackbu...192se-firmware

otherwise the driver is included in kernels > 3.0

I am running this driver on 13.37 with the 3.0.13 kernel and the latest rtlwifi firmware from David Woodhouse's git repo. It is much more stable than the module on manufacturers site on a pre 3.0 kernel. I ran the 3.1 kernel with the same firmware and got system freezes every 5 minutes and could barely boot the thing. As much as I love linux, I do wonder how such a crappy driver can find it's way into a stable kernel.
