root not in netdev group by default

Did someone forget this or is there some reason why root is not part of netdev by default?

Why should?

It is now:
Code:

Tue Aug 11 01:04:25 CDT 2009
a/etc-13.0-noarch-1.txz:  Upgraded.
Added root to power, netdev, and scanner groups in /etc/group.

But what is netdev group for, and why would root need to be there?
And especially why would root need to be in scanner, unless that is
for idiots running X as root?

According to this post from Alien Bob:

Add yourself to the "netdev" group to use wicd.

Eric
This is confirmed by the README.SLACKWARE file in extra/wicd directory:

According to this post from Robby Workman:

Quote:

Dbus doesn't "care" who root is -- it checks the identity of the account that requested an action, and if that account isn't allowed to perform that action, the request is denied. For those people running X as root (horror), it's desirable to have root in the relevant groups.
