ctrl+alt+F6

Locate in /etc/X11/xorg.conf the line that should say DefaultDepth and give it a value of 24

OK, what about unsuitable monitor? (I'm, sure i gave the right horizontal an vertical number)

Did you try to startx after the DefaultDepth change ?
