Reverting Kernel
Hi all
Recently, i've done a _huge_ mistake: i updated (via slackpkg) my kernel ( the one shipped with slackware 14.0) to the 3.7.1 without doing any backup of the old kernel. Since i'm getting problems with various stuff, i've decided to revert the kernel to the slackware default one. Is there a safe way to revert it? Thanks |
I also had problems with the new kernel in current. The easiest way to revert to 14.0 is to go into the mirrors file, comment out the source you picked for a -current release and then uncomment one of the sources for 14.0, whichever architecture you need. From there, simply follow the slackpkg update and upgrade process and that should safely take you back to the kernel in 14.0.

Thank you, i'll try :D
Can i also use pkgtool packages from the slackware dvd, right? Or is better let slackpkg doing everything? |
If you used slackpkg to go to -current, then use slackpkg to go back to stable.

I would let slackpkg do the work because not all the packages from the Slackware DVD are the same as the ones from the mirrors, very similar, but not entirely. However, it is up to you, if you would prefer to read the documentation on doing it with the DVD properly then that is your choice.
