Restore LILO


I had Slack10 installed and Then I had to format the HD and reinstall windows as usuall

and now I have to recover Lilo but I can't I tried booting from CD2 of slack and using liloconfig and it didn't work it didn't do anything, so what should I do?

If you don't delete your slack root partition, you should be abble to boot into it from the second CD rom prompt.

I think boot your PC with the second (or first, I can not remember) slack install cd, assuming bios settings let PC boot from CD.

You come at a stage where you see something like that :
boot :
try typing (say your slack is in /dev/hda1)
boot: root=/dev/hda1

1.If you can boot into Slack you should just be able to run "lilo"

2.If you can't boot into Slack burn a live cd and run it from there. There are tutorials at the Knoppix website.

If that doesn't work you can burn a Knoppix live cd and run the "lilo" command from a chroot environment. There are tutorials at the Knoppix website.
