Resolution Problems

Hey, so, i did what i had said earlier and installed Slack 9.1 to fix basically all of my problems, but now im left with a shitty resolution... ichanged it in XF86Config or whatever the file is but it wont go higher than 1024x768...
Comp info:
Hp pavillion ze 5300 laptop
P4 2.66
512 m ram
Radeon mobile vid card

if you need to know more i can tell you, my problem is that, in slack 8.1 it had no problem showing at my normal res of 1400x1050, and being a linux newb, i dont really know what to do, id guess driver problem of some sort, but havent the slightest clue as to where to look. i mean if it was at least fullscreen, i wouldnt have as big a problem with this, but im left with a postcard sized box that is my monitor which is making actually seeing what im typing a pain in the ass, anyway if you canhelp, please respond ordrop me a line via a emai, slozx3@hotmail.com

Hi ...

Are you usig the VESA driver or did you install/
activate the radeon one?

Cheers,
Tink

i didnt install or activate anything new, so im using whatever it defaults to during the install process

I believe that VESA may have limitations in
the resolution, but I wouldn't bet on it. However,
I'd recommend trying the "real" radeon drivers.

Cheers,
Tink

ive tried that already also, i went to ati.com and they said to try from my manufacturer and hp only offers winxp/2000 support

try to run the xfreesetup program...
it can detect a lot of video drivers, chipset,...
i think it will work with yours...
After that you can choose your favorite resolution
maybe you can post your XF86Config file...
/etc/X11/XF86Config..
Cheers

http://144.118.217.94/XF86Config
theres a link to my config file, also, where is the xfree setup program/what is te md to open it?

slackie1000 12-11-2003 02:34 PM

hi.

should be under
/usr/X11R6/bin/xfree86setup
you must run as root...
this script will try to make autodetection of your graphic card and monitor settings..
looking to your link, i think you have a XF86config default file..
this script will save this default file and write a new one...
i hope it will help..
please, post the output of xfree86setup...

cheers,
