Just a thought, but

I don't see anywhere where Pat mention that the next release after 15.0 will be 15.1 (officially, at least)
So, probably, it would have been better to wait a bit before making this thread

With all due respect to my esteemed members I do want to have KDE-plasma and XFCE available to me during the installation process. I don't want to go into /extra and install those DEs after the installation. That's my preference.

And it would be a bit unfair to all the work done by AlienBob, Patrick (and rworkman for xfce) on the perfect integration of these DEs.

I got two suggestions I would like to make for 15.1:
  1. Replace MWM with EWMW because EWMW has support for EWMH and other modern X11 features like xinearama.
  2. Add OpenJDK 11 or OpenJDK 17 to slackware current. Either add it under set D or make a new set for OpenJDK like how emacs has its own set.

Why though? I would like to see LXQT replace KDE if such a thing does happen.

Come on guys!
This thread starts badly
Even if the 15.0 is not released yet, this is a place to make request to improve Slackware, not everyone personal's stuff ...

I think it's going to be a bumpy ride until this thread replaces the 14.2->15.0 thread as the sticky and pat releases 15.0 as stable and begins work on current for next release.

Update glibc to 2.34
Update vulkan-sdk
update xorg-server

Semi impossible things i would like to see:
Able to install and use more than one python version in the same system for example python 3.9 and 3.10 and change version like in Gentoo and Exherbo
same for wine (Orbea please release your module)

impossible things:
A musl repository for people who likes musl instead of glibc.

Can we slowly start seeking alternatives to the kernel (Linux) in case it becomes unmaintainable in the future?

Are there any remotely viable candidates?

What would you propose? What makes you think it could become unmaintainable?

Feel free to knock yourself out, but I believe this principle applies here:

The OS of the first personal computer I used circa 1977 was written in assembly for 8080.
