Cinnamon

I'd like to see Cinnamon Desktop. It's probably not realistic since it would likely be a herculean feat to accomplish.

rworkman 03-08-2016 08:24 PM

I don't want anything to do with GNOME3 (the DE), even if quite a few of the disaggregated applications are excellent, so I won't be spending any time on that. I can't say this for sure, since I'd be speaking for others, but I suspect the rest of the development team have similar thoughts...

willysr 03-08-2016 08:47 PM

as an alternative: you can grab my Cinnamon SlackBuild project: https://github.com/willysr/csb

please make sure to checkout the development branch if you are using current

ReaperX7 03-09-2016 09:10 AM

Updates to the installer might not happen, especially dhcpcd and dropbear. I think, if memory serves, Eric mentioned why as there were problems with the newer packages.

Orbit2 from /extras/google-chrome can probably be put out to /pasture. Gconf builds without it just fine and Orbit2 has been undeveloped for a while now.

Neither of those programs have been included under /extras/google-chrome/ since 13.37. 14.0 removed those but added google-chrome-pam-solibs, which was removed in 14.1. Both 14.1 and -current just have google-chrome.SlackBuild, slack-desc, and README.

It is not sufficient to change the $LANG *after* installation?

In addition, you might be interested in Super Date Format.

I first tried Super Date Format. It changes the date format in the Data and Received columns. The date format within the email and in printed emails is not changed.

I've removed Super Date Format, and changing the LANG environment variable in /etc/profile.d/lang.sh changes the date format throughout Thunderbird. It would be nice if this could be changed during installation via the Setup scripts.

Pat would you prefer folks to post requests only for stuff they *need* rather than just stuff that happens to be available, or do you find these reports helpful?

As an example, we're a few releases behind with git now: 2.6.4 vs 2.7.2, but I wouldn't say I actually *need* the the latest version.

More a request for 14.1 than -current, really: Firefox 45 is the new ESR version, replacing 38. It's probably time to consider upgrading, since 38esr is slated to stop receiving security updates about a month from now following the release of 38.8.0esr.

I like when using sudo on OpenBSD because the insults are turned on. So when you mistype your password you'll get a very mild insult about your intelligence. It's similar to fortune in that it's not really necessary but a bit funny.

Seeing as how AMD recently has began to pursue the xf86-video-amdgpu driver with tenacity and the proprietary driver is not supportive of xorg's latest server, getting a full inclusive driver for Mesa might a worthwhile inclusion to Slackware. By this, adding OpenCL support via LLVM's libclc project for AMD GPUs via Mesa would be a positive inclusion to Slackware. The target GPU list is AMD only, but this would give further support in the OpenGL Mesa drivers for the chipsets it targets, and there is also some support of other GPUs from Nvidia and Intel.

Then we might add http://omxil.sourceforge.net/ and gst-oms plugin as well so hw encoding are supported (personally i think the user can do it them selves and recompile mesa).
Mesa 11.2 would be good since it adds OpenGL 4.1 for R600g and should be released any day now.

Very true. There were some issues with the latest OpenMAX release from omxil-bellagio with the latest GCC which requires some patching, but yes, rounding out support would be a wiser choice since the Free driver for AMD is of very high quality, very similar to the Nvidia OEM driver. I do believe those would give the AMD Mesa driver complete support.
