I recently discovered ed, the line editor ; very different, sometimes acrobatic, but finally very pleasant - it replaced nano for my daily use, which happened to be my favorite. Very happy it's part of Slackware.
In the kernel config , cause when plug a FAT usb stick , in slackware , and slackware is now utf8 , need this as default, or see strange characters on other langs NOT "US".
special characters not see correct like "ñ" "ó" or other , probably "instantánea" ... in general words with special characters not see correct , i rebuild every time the kernel to change this, but , probably other users benefit of this change ,especially not english users.
The easy test is, create a file in slackware , like text file and in name put special character , now copy this file in to usb stick , and see how the name not see correctly.
Slackware ships with xedit (in the "x" package set).
One question, Is it possible to theme xedit to make it look just like notepad? I've used notepad for so long I like the asthetics of it.

Ed is crazy inane. Wouldn't a per line editor be more of a pain compared to WYSIWYG editor?

Possible, why not, but not out of the box and providing this feature would need a lot of work and it is very unlikely that you find someone wanting and able to do that.
If you really like notepad, you can build notepadqq from http://slackbuilds.org. Be aware that you'll nedd to build heavy dependencies first.

There are different people, with different requirements. Slackware target most kinds of users.

OK, so I played with different TERM values in Konsole a bit. Once TERM is set to xterm, all the annoying issues are gone. It's enough to start cmus like following
Code:
TERM=xterm cmus
and it is able to update terminal window title again.
The only drawback is mangled slackpkg dialog windows, but I guess that is expected due to new xterm terminfo definition which Konsole is unable to handle fully, right?
