Thanks! Appreciate the kind words. Just enjoying a snow day here... foot of heavy snow so far and it's still coming down.

That'd be nice. It's hot and humid down here in San Antonio (80F in March just feels wrong). I can't wait to get back to a climate that actually has winter...

A non-X image viewer. svgalib no longer works for most of us. I've built a few but am not committed to any one.

Did you have in mind something framebuffer-based, like fbi, or something character-based, like cacaview?

dugan 03-06-2018 11:44 AM

I'm surprised imlib2 was never part of Slackware. It would be a nice addition. Especially if libcaca were to be rebuilt to use it.

I'll have to try cacaview to know - but I mean images, not characters in a character set. I've been using fbi since svgalib stopped working, but it fails with many PDFs; I've started using fbpdf for them. I raised the issue to get others' input

I built imlib2 for some other reason; I'll have to build my own libcaca to see how cacaview works out.

NAME
      cacaview - ASCII image browser

SYNOPSIS
      cacaview [FILE...]

DESCRIPTION
      cacaview  is  a lightweight text mode image viewer. It renders images using colour ASCII characters. It is a powerful add-on to famous console programs such as the mutt email client,
      the slrn newsreader and the links or w3m web browsers.

      cacaview can load the most widespread image formats: PNG, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP etc.

      You can zoom and scroll the image around for more details, and choose four different dithering modes. All commands are accessible through a single key press.

Unfortunately, the version included in Slackware doesn't include imlib2 support, so it only supports bitmap images. I tried rebuilding it after installing imlib2, but it still failed and I haven't had time to research why.

Broken link in kernel-modules-4.14.24*

Hi
Thanks for today update, but in the packages kernel-modules* there is an error!

After install this update, system create broken link "build" and "source" in /lib/modules/4.14.24*/ folders.

build -> /tmp/package-kernel-source/usr/src/linux-4.14.24, but need /usr/src/linux-4.14.24
source -> /tmp/package-kernel-source/usr/src/linux-4.14.24, but need /usr/src/linux-4.14.24

Correct this in doinst.sh, in packages kernel-modules-4.14.24-i586-1 and kernel-modules-smp-4.14.24_smp-i686-1.

Thanks

It would be great if Slackware removes language-specific conf files in fontconfig.

Currently, by default, Slackware doesn't use Japanese font correctly.

bash-4.4$ env -i LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 fc-match
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.avail/53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf", line 10: Having multiple values in <test> isn't supported and may not work as expected
wqy-zenhei.ttc: "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" "Medium"
bash-4.4$ env -i FC_LANG=ja fc-match
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.avail/53-monospace-lcd-filter.conf", line 10: Having multiple values in <test> isn't supported and may not work as expected
wqy-zenhei.ttc: "WenQuanYi Zen Hei" "Medium"

Chinese fonts are different glyph from Japanese fonts so it seems weird for Japanese.

I check original fontconfig.
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/fontcon...cf2fd069ea0d10
There are no language-specific conf files.

Other distributions like Ubuntu removes language-specific files and make them obsolete.

And also please take a look at the following link.
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fontco...ific_overrides

Best regards,
Tak

Dovecot LDAP

Hi, :hattip:

Is it possible to add the option --with-ldap=plugin or --with-ldap=yes to dovecot?

It doesn't need an extra dependecy and is needed to add ldap support to dovecot. I been using dovecot with mysql for the last 4 years in slackware-current and the new package works out-of-the-box, however on another server I have dovecot associated with Active Directoy so I notice that ldap support was missing.

Thank you. :)

Did you remove the --disable-imlib2 from the ./configure line? But that's weird. I wonder why mine won't build... oh well, I can diagnose it when I get back home later this month.

Broken link in kernel-huge-smp-4.14.24 and kernel-generic-smp-4.14.24_smp

Hi,
thanks for correct kernel-modules* links!

But after install updated kernel-huge-smp-4.14.24 or kernel-generic-smp-4.14.24_smp
system create broken link "vmlinuz" in /boot/ folders.

in kernel-generic-smp-4.14.24
vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-generic-4.14.24 , but need vmlinuz-generic-smp-4.14.24-smp (or vmlinuz-generic-smp)

in kernel-huge-smp-4.14.24
vmlinuz -> vmlinuz-huge-4.14.24 , but need vmlinuz-huge-smp-4.14.24-smp (or vmlinuz-huge-smp)

Correct this in doinst.sh, in kernel-generic-smp-4.14.24_smp-i686-1 and kernel-huge-smp-4.14.24_smp-i686-1

Thanks

Another interesting fontconfig side-effect. I noticed some of my application font appearances had changed.

"Terminus:bold" font-pattern now appears to resolve to 'regular'. One has to use the fully spelt out pattern "Terminus:style=bold". Whether this is due to the config file issues or just a change in the library itself I don't know.
