Request for Slackware 14.2 -- Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24]
Hello,
I installed Slackware 14.2, rc1 for 64bit. My computer has a 'Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. ICE1712 [Envy24] PCI Multi-Channel I/O Controller (rev 02)'. I noticed Slackware 14.2 uses Pulseaudio instead of Alsamixer, the former does not bring audio to my machine while the latter does. My particular issue is that when I configure pulseaudio, the program always defaults to HDMI audio and ignores the ICE1712 soundcard. The Pulseaudio settings/controls show that the card is there, but it will not select to it. When I hit 'apply', there is still no audio and I see it defaults to HDMI when I re-launch it. I looked up the issue online and found that it is not a unique issue across distros. For example, the same issue surfaces in Debian. I don't know if there are any other Slackware users who have this sound card, but if a fix/patch/whatever could be released for this issue, it would be appreciated.
Well, that is a pretty easy fix. Since your hdmi audio uses the snd_hda_intel module and your onboard sound uses the snd_ice1712 module, you can just blacklist the snd_hda_intel module and your onboard will then become the default audio device.
Just run the following as root and then reboot the system (or unload the various modules and then load them again then restart pulseaudio).
