Removing MESA drivers

Hi guys,
I'm trying to get translucencies / shadows going on KDE, but when I enable composition (ie: Option "Composite" "Enable"
it falls back to the mesa drivers.
I've tried removing /usr/X11R6/lib/libOSMesa.* but it keeps happening ><

I know many ppl are having a hard time gettin composition to work with ATI cards (which is what I have), but I haven't found any working solutions.

Composition is working just fine on my other comp with an Nvidia card, so I know it's got something to do with X giving up on fglrx and falling back to Mesa, I'd just like to know how to stop this from happening.

Cheers,

well, I was just reading some /var/log/Xorg.log for some clue as to whats happening and, as expected, what happens is:
fglrx(0): Composite extention enabled, disabling direct rendering

which is probably the reason why it falls back on mesa.

Now, my question is twofold,
a) why doesn't composition work on mesa (being slow i could understand, this is just not working)
b) why does it disable dri when enabling composition?? :( and how to stop it from happening.
