remove penguin

How do I remove the penguin at bootup? Just want a plain screen. I had framebuffer setup to 1024X768 during the installation. What next? Edit the /etc/lilo.conf file?

Not sure how to do it without disabling framebuffer or patching the kernel :\

you can remove it, but it will involve a kernel recompile.

Edit /etc/lilo.conf put vga=normal and rerun lilo, no need to touch the kernel.
Mmm, maybe I understood wrong, if you want that resolution without the penguin, yes, you've to recompile the kernel.

You'll need to configure this part in your kernel...

# Logo configuration
#
CONFIG_LOGO=y <----- change to NO
# CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_MONO is not set
# CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_VGA16 is not set
CONFIG_LOGO_LINUX_CLUT224=y

Are there none of you (sub)geniuses out there who could figure out a hack that'll let people include or exclude that cute penguin without recompiling the kernel?

Or maybe the penguin's supposed to be sort of a reward for a successful custom compile. If that's the case, let well enough alone.

It should be noted that with grub bootloader, the penguin appears only at boot, it disappears at
login prompt. Maybe it is doable with lilo by do some scroll hack with the framebuffer...

I'd like to figure out how to make the thing show up. That's for later, though...

I have to say that I prefer the penguin. I have an odd affection for the little bugger.

You know, that penguin does have a name. How would you like it if someone refered to you all the time as 'hey you'. Please throw him a fish, an refer to him by his name, Tux, and make him feel better because its the right thing to do.

Equal rights for all penguins!!!

Pipe was temporarily removed, due to the fact that it adds a negative image to the demographics that we are trying to focus on for the campaign. Penguins age 18-25.

MagicMan -- And I still approve the above message, lol

Thanks to those of you who are speaking up for penguin rights. I suspect this insidious detuxification campaign originates in Redmond, Washington, USA.

the penguin is gone

Hi;

I had to recompile my kernel to remove tux from the boot up process because it would remain there even after the computer finished booting up. While I simply clear the screen afterwords, something is buggy in the fact that my less pager (and thus the man pages as well) will not display properly on the command line.
If i open up vim or start x then return to the terminal less works perfectly. It is a bit of a pain to keep having to do this every time I start my comp and want to use less, so I disabled it.
