[SOLVED] remove kde from slackware 13.1?

hello there, i want to remove kde from my system, but i want to be able to run kde applications just in case i need one in the future..
so what do i need to uninstall to still be able to run "Kprograms"? xD

Ok, thank you all, i guess i'll just leave it there until my hard drive starts to run out of space xD, thanks again.

So you want to see the devil but you dont want to go to hell?

Removing KDE and still be able to run kde appz is a bit problematic as alot of kde appz require kde lib's...
... I think if you keep the base you can still run 100% of the appz

Ill leave this one to the experts..

by the way I have run kde apps in gnome before without an issue.

LOL, well yeah you know it's just that the whole kde system i actually too much for my computer i only have an old pentium 4 @ 3.00ghz, and a really old graphics card a nvidia geforce 7200gs

and i kinda don't like xfce and i guess i'll stick to fluxbox or openbox either one. xD

michaelinux, there was a similar thread recently about how to run k3d without KDE. You can find it with a search and it'll probably help you. What programs do you have in mind?

I really don't understand the "need" to uninstall anything unless you're really taxed for hard drive space. It's not like just having KDE "living in the neighborhood" on your drive is gonna "make your lawn break out in dandelions". If you don't call it and invite it over it just sits there. If you'd like the daughter to come over for a little visit and leave Dad at home, that's not a problem. He only gets involved if she needs a ride or if you invite him, too.

Altough you don't have to install the entire K-Desktop to run KDE apps (i.e., you can run k3b to burn your disks from Gnome, for example), the simple fact is that you already have it installed, and it would be more hassle to remove than just leave it.

You most likely just want to run one of your other lightweight window managers, so just do the following:

# xwmconfig

Choose the default window manager and never see KDE again

So long as you have plenty of hard drive space, just leave it on there. Then you won't risk removing anything that your KDE apps require, and it won't affect anything if you're not running it.

I would leave KDE alone unless your HD is filling up, a full install of Slackware is only 5+ GB. I run KDE applications while using XFce without issue.

Maybe in your situation it might be best to leave kde installed, and install openbox. Just switch your default wm to openbox, and then it will get the kde libs when it needs them, while still being light on resources.
