release candidate 5

I installed slackware 11 release candidate 5 and upgraded my machine to current with slapt-get. Now, I figure that all I have to do, when the official version 11 comes out is to change the repo in slapt-get to 11 rather than current.

The question is "should I"? What are the downsides to staying up with current? Do things break very often?

I've run current for many years. In my experience, something will break one of out five times you update (I normally do this once every few months). It's usually something small and fixable.

Well the current branch will probably get pretty unstable after 11.0 comes out so I'd stay away from it.

Current branch will get the latest packages and the modifications and they might not work well, that's why they are tested in current before adding them to any release.

I'm grateful to the folks who stay on current because they flush out issues I would not have the time, skill or patience to deal with. I dip into current occasionally for an updated packge to resolve a dependency. Otherwise, I sit comfortable in stable.
