Regenerate Slack12 var directory
During my Gparted fiasco (see separate thread), I hosed my /var. I've built it enough by hand to get by; however, I'd like to have Slack12 "regenerate" it. Is this possible? I've review the FHS and have manually created enough folders/etc to be running.

You can recover most of it by reinstalling the entire package tree. That will restore your /var/log/packages directory correctly, which is required to do future package upgrades. Any custom packages you had installed will also need to be reinstalled.

Thanks. That's what I ended up doing. I formatted the swap, /var, /usr and /tmp partitions during an "over-write" install. Did a "full" install and I always blow away 4 or 5 packages afterwards. This kept my /home, /data, /backup, /, /boot (didn't have to reconfigure the generic smp, recommended kernel) and /usr/local as they were. I then did an installpkg on ALL of my downloaded packages. The /usr/local partition was in tact . I think I'm good to go a /var came up with multiple items and I saw no errors on reboot.
