Recent Firefox results in GUI corruption
I'm on slackware64 -current and ever since the last round of updates, I've had an odd experience with Firefox where every period or so of browsing results in the Firefox GUI ( and pages ) corrupting and finally disappearing altogether. Menu items are gone and pages are blank. I have to restart Firefox to work further.

I've reinstalled Firefox as well as made sure that all 'Added' packages from recent updates are installed. .new files are renamed and for good measure I've gone through all installation folders and reinstalled essential items ( like libraries, etc. ).

Anyone else have this issue?

Robby ( not Workman )

Which version of Slackware are you using? 13.1 as in your profile or a more recent release?

Sorry I should update my profile. It's slackware64 -current per my post.

I often test Nightly releases of Firefox from my /opt directory without many issues. Try a Nightly build and see how it works.

You can try to delete the Firefox cache, something like:

rm -rf /home/username/.mozilla/firefox/*default/Cache/*

Also check if add-ons can be the cause by starting Firefox in safe mode or disable the extensions.

Thanks ReaperX7 and jostber, I'll try these suggestions. Today showed no problems though - strange.

If you use an nVidia GPU, then this thread may be relevant.

Thanks allend - I had this issue previously after upgrading X ( solved by reinstalled nvidia driver ), however this new problem is unrelated. It's almost like a slow and gradual corruption of menu items and page contents ( only in firefox - thunderbird is fine ) over a period of a few minutes of browsing until at some point there are no objects left, and the browser is completely blank.

Try switching off hardware acceleration from the flash plugin: Right-click some flash ad, then Settings, Display, unselect "Enable hardware acceleration".

Some more on Firefox and resetting options and menus in safe mode:

slightly different problem but firefox related
Ive installed current-64 version 30.6.12, more or less a standard installation, only deselected some unwanted packages and installed things like the flash plugin.
xfce is the standard desktop. the system suddenly froze two or three times a day similar to my old slackware 12.2 installation since a xorg update in fall 2010. over the days the system froze more often, sometimes every 20 minutes. i first deinstalled the flash plugin, then decided to do a semi new install because a update gave lots of errors. after the new install with a 30.7.12 version the system froze between 20 seconds and five minutes after the startx command. the freezing correlated with the number of open tabs in firefox, more open tabs earlier freezing. then i decided to avoid the start of firefox on the startup of xfce. since then no more crashes.
firefox has a problem on my system in the 64 bit version on an intel graphic chip so the problems are not only nvidia related.
