Re:Mounting a dvdr

Hi all, well i have installed slack 9.1 about 4 times in a row, my latest disaster was trying to copy files from a cdr, an getting an I/O error, I just installed xine and rpm, not sure if they are the culprits. Just wondering if i can mount my dvdr(preferabbly so that it reads dvdr's), I'm not sure if this is possible, I havent tried compiling the 2.6 kernel yet, I tried changing my fsab from this:

/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 user,unhide,noauto,owner,kudzu,ro

to this:

/dev/dvdr /mnt/dvdr udf,iso9660 user,unhide,noauto,owner,kudzu,ro

and made a dvdr folder in my mount directory, now i have a hd folder in my /mount dir any ideas on how to read dvdr's?

Thanks for your time

Check if you /dev/dvdr exists and points to the right device. Also check the permissions on /mnt/dvdr .
The line in fstab should be something like:
Code:
/dev/dvdr  /mnt/dvdr  iso9660  noauto,user,ro      0 0
After that you should be able to mount a dvd as a normal user.

Redhat sets all this up automagicly, in slack you have to do it your self by editing config files and making the odd symbolic link, I mount my DVD±RW at /mnt/dvd with the following entry in /etc/fstab,
Code:
/dev/dvd       /mnt/dvd             auto        noauto,users         0   0
and /dev/dvd is a symbolic link to /dev/sr0
Code:
bern@beast bern $ ll /dev/dvd
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            8 Feb  3 17:44 /dev/dvd -> /dev/sr0
bern@beast bern $
