Re: /bin/sh rpm dependancy problem

Hiya guys, just trying to install an rpm package(on slack 10 kernel 2.6.7) and I get /bin/sh is needed by filename.rpm if i type /bin/sh the console changes to a shell script (I think thats what happens) but if I type the same command I still get that dependancy error, I did install it with --nodeps and it installed but I'm having trouble running the package( my reg file doesnt seem to work, and the instructions i got from th reseller were for a mac heh), so I just want to make sure its not something else, the package is for redhat 7.3 and 8.

Thanks

MunCH

Don't use rpm to install software on Slackware. You can convert a rpm file to a Slackware package using rmp2tgz. After that you are able to install the package using pkgtool or installpkg, but that is not a garantuee your package will work. Most of the times compiling it from source is a better solution. Or check linuxpackages.net for a Slackware package.

Or you can use rpm tool from rpm official slackware package.
I installed and compiled grub sucessfully from a grub.src.rpm redhat package one year ago and some softwares too.

rpm -ivh --nodeps your.rpm

[edit]
As I read with much attention, I see now that you already used --nodeps
But what is this package ?

thanks guys, the package is shave and a haircut for maya: shaveHaircut_Maya6_0-2.7-46.i686.rpm its a cool hair plugin joealter ( for maya (3D modelling and animation) it only comes as an rpm file, as does maya but I installed maya on slack 10 with --nodeps without much of a glitch, after trying the rpm2tgz way a while back unsuccessfully, just cant work out this shell script dependancy thing, but like I said Its installed, just been taking a little while getting support emails so I can get it working being the weekend and all doesnt help.

Anyway thanks for the tips
