Random Freeze

The first time I installed Slackware, it ran a treat... everything going just fine. I reinstalled it a while due to an accident with the rm command :S

Anyway Slackware 9.0 randomly freezes for no apparent reason. Everything stops, I lose the powerbutton's functionality and have to rip the power cord out to reboot.

Any ideas?

System: Slackware 9.0, 2.4.20 Kernel. GNOME Desktop. AMD Athlon Processor, NVidia Geforce card, 512M ram etc.

-- processes running during the crashes:

init
keventd
ksoftirqd_CPU0
kswapd
bdflush
kupdated
mdrecoveryd
reiserfsd

that is more or less what ps -e produces for me...

Thanks in advance!

The referenced thread doesn't seem to be of any help... I tried a few things that were reccommended and X still freezes completely.
