Ran swaret now X won't start (Keyboard driver missing ?)

Hello,

I've just run swaret on my Slackware 10 system and sadly this seems to have broken X. As soon as I try "startx" the x server now fails to start and the /var/log/xorg.0.log file shows the following errors:

(EE) No Input driver matching `Keyboard'

No core keyboard

Fatal server error:
failed to initialize core devices

However further up the same file I can see the following entries:

(**) |-->Input Device "Keyboard1"
(**) Option "XkbModel" "pc104"
(**) XKB: model: "pc104"
(**) Option "XkbLayout" "uk"
(**) XKB: layout: "uk"
(==) Keyboard: CustomKeycode disabled

So now I'm slightly confused as I haven't changed my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and it looks much like it did before I used swaret. I know this as I had only just edited my /etc/X11/xorg.conf file (to add the "ZAxisMapping" line for my wheel mouse) about 15 minutes before I ran swaret.

Has anyone got any ideas how I can fix this ?

Thankyou.

Read the changelogs (hint the driver name changed):

ftp://ftp.slackware.com/pub/slackwar.../ChangeLog.txt

Go to /etc/X11 directory and open up xorg.conf with an editor and under the input section and driver keyboard, Change the uppercase K to a lower case k and see if that works, Same thing just happend to me.

Should look like this.
# **********************************************************************
# Core keyboard's InputDevice section
# **********************************************************************

Section "InputDevice"

Identifier "Keyboard1"
Driver "keyboard"

Thanks !

Changing to a lower case "k" in "keyboard" did indeed do the trick. Now I suppose I'll have to go read the changelog too ! Although I must say this seems a rather arbitary and pointless change to make ?

But on another note then, yet again, alsa is no longer working when I go into X..... and alsaconf doesn't find any cards etc. etc. Ho bloody hum. How utterly fucking tedious....

So... I think I'll just give up using swaret as it's a total bloody pain in the arse to keep losing sound. Oh well looks like I'll be booting up my Winderz box so I can hear some tunes.

But thanks again for the keyboard tip !

Cool.
Yea I lost sound every time I use swaret and some other things are messed up but I think thats because I had Version set to current instead of 10 in swaret.conf. Yup, Its tedious, LOL. I like using it because I am not sure what security updates I need or how to really install them. I think next time I am not going to use the -a switch and just install what I think i need such as security related stuff and maybe KDE.

Well it's a day later and I'm in a (slightly) better temper so cheers for the link !

And I suppose the moral of the story is don't be lazy and expect a tool to do the whole job for you !

But then again I like using swaret as I don't know enough to keep my security up to date manually (nor do I really have the time to continually scan the 'net for news of vital updates etc.)

Oh well I suppose it's all part of the learning process.

But cheers again for the top tip (I'm downloading the source as I type)
