radeon 7200, poor performance
 
since I installed slackware 10, I've been having pretty bad video card perfomance (ati radeon 7200 32mb) when windows are moved etc. the graphics will distort

here's part of the output of glxinfo, as you can see, there are some errors and I have no direct rendering

try the radeon driver... instead of ati. But i dont think you can get 3d accell under linux with that card though.

Well, I dont think there is yet hardware support for that card.

Isn't there DRI/DRM support for these older Radeons? You'll have to compile the driver yourself I think, but it should work.

I am running Slackware 10, I have a Radeon 7200. and I managed to get the DRI stuff working after a bit of trial and error. The framerates are lousy, but the GL stuff does work. I have included the glxgears info., the glxinfo, an lsmod output and my xorg.conf below. I found that I mostly used information from the DRI Wiki at http://dri.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/moin.cgi/ and older postings from here to get things going. Also, the 7200 isn't supported on the ATI drivers, so you need the radeon driver from xorg, or maybe the DRI one, or maybe they are one and the same (see glxinfo...).

Hope this stuff helps, and let me know if you need more info.
