Quick Question about new hardware


Anybody had any experience with slack and this config. I want to buy a new config but have trouble finding a decent one:

First Config:
Intel PIV 2.4 Ghz Boxed 512K FSB800
MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R S-ATA 875P,Dual DDR400

Second Config:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+ Barton Boxed
MSI KT6 Delta FIS2R KT600 (3DDR/5PCI/SATA,ATA-RAID/GBLAN/IEE1394



The rest I have is:
Radeon 9700 pro
Promise Raid with 2 disks

There should be no problems with that configurations. You should use last kernel (2.4.22) and compile it to support your "fresh" hardware.

Consider this advice,

Linux will be easier to install if u use older hardware. Buying the latest hardware, u ll need to compromise with some hardware may has no driver for linux ..

That my experience on 2001 with abit kt7-raid athlon 900MH.

But that should not hinder ur intention, use older hardware for linux just save time from having to wait for some driver for new hardware being developed from the community only.

I'd recommend do a googling for "MSI 875P NEO-FIS2R S-ATA 875P linux" something, do some reading there ..
