questions before install
i have slackware 10.1 on order, and just want to know of any potential pitfalls secondary to hardware.
I have been using Linux about a year, mostly debian flavored distros, but want to branch out and try other distros. compaq 2108US laptop: cpu: amd athlon xp-m mobo: hp 0024 bios: phoenix kam 1.59 audio: conexant amc audio video: ati radeon igp 320m wifi: broadcom (94306 chipset) pcmcia: adaptec firewire card thats about it. just want to be aware of any potential issues. thanks. andy |
if your hardware worked with your previous distros then it will work in slackware

all the hardware worked. some out of the box, some took some work, ie: to get sbp2 in ubuntu i had to recompile my 2.6 kernel. and the ati drivers i had to get from ati.
i guess to be specific, is there alot of 3rd party hardware support out of the box in slackware, or will it take work on my part ? not that i mind, i just want to know if i can expect it to pick up my hardware or i spend alot of time post install configuring ? thanks andy |
