Question for you long time users, "darkstar" ; where does that name come from ?

Hello all, I was wondering, where if any is the reasoning behind the default hostname of "darkstar" ? Is it a movie, planet, etc. ? Does anyone know why Mr. V chose that name? - Fogie.

There was a movie call Dark Star years back. Very good film. Maybe that's it.

Well, I don't know the origin of the name, but it has been around for a while. At least in Slackware 1.01 the name "darkstar" was already present. Check out my post about this version here. There were also some funny user names at the time

Does anyone know if this came from SLS or was this an idea from Pat V.?

Since Patrick is a big Deadhead (as I am myself), I am pretty sure it refers to the well-known Grateful Dead song "Dark star".

There is a lot of activity... but it is all going on behind the scenes. Some of the updates are pretty invasive and those need testing (and a lot of package recompilation) before it is all released to the masses in working condition.
