question about kernel compiling from scratch ...

Hi. I am going to get the new 2.4.20 and cd to that directory and build from scratch a new kernel image. Question is> When I type 'make modules_install'
will it overwrite the old modules in the modules directory?
Also, it appears that i don't have video 4 lin support in my present "out of the box" kernel, so I am basically recompiling so that I can get TV going in Linux with Mplayer. Will there be a line in the config that asks me if I want v4lin support and bttv modules built??

When modules are installed for a new kernel it will create a new tree under /lib/modules for the kernel version. The older trees for prior kernels remain to be used for those kernels if they are ever used.

Video For Linux is under Multimedia devices. Perhaps you should look at the kernel source Documentation tree under video4linux. There is a directory there for bttv.
