Question about installing new version of software
 

I have gxine on my dropline gnome which I think it is default installed. And I want to install the new version of xine, should I uninstall the old one or just install the new one without any action on the old one. Or is there a way to upgrade on it which I think it is the best way.

if you have the slack pkg of the new version of gxine then you can just use upgradepkg to upgrade the current pkg

if it is a source code file you can build it as a slack package then run upgradepkg. to build it as a slack package you can read up on checkinstall or read the building method at linuxpackages.net.
