Quake3 in Slackware 9.0

Alright installed Quake3 from with the Linux Q3 Point - 1.32b installer and by copying over that pak0.pk3 file from my Windows Quake3 CD, I go to run it and the resolution is a little messed up but it's not a big deal I can fool with it later, however I go to exit and it brings down XFree86 completely, can not move my mouse, can not change to consoles cannot even safely shutdown by pressing ctrl-alt-del or ctrl-alt-del-sysrq (somebody said I should try the latter) not sure what to do about this, the 2nd time I ran Quake3 decided I would play with the resolution, well after a few changes this too brings down XFree86, it is extremely frustrating. FYI I'm running Slackware 9.0 (2.4.22-Custom), XFree86 4.3.0, Radeon DRI from GATOS, Dropline Gnome 2.2.3, and my videocard is a ATI Radeon 8500 DVI running on the GATOS Drivers. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks

-Tony
