Q: WiFi Interface ath0 - No such device

I'm using Slackware 11.0 and D-Link DWL-G520. I followed Madwifi Slackware guide to download the package and installed it. But when I try "ifconfig ath0 up", it says there is no such device. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

i don't know much about wireless but i've never seen an interface called ath0 before. it's usually eth0 or eth1. can you do an ifconfig -a and post the output?

The ath0 is indeed the correct name for a network interface created by the madwifi driver.
You card is listed here as unsupported, that is likely the reason that you don't have a ath0 interface after loading the module´.

I am afraid that your only alternative is to try the ndiswrapper, and patiently wait for support to be added to the madwifi driver (which I guess will happen at some time, since madwifi is a very active project).
