pwc upgrade

Slackware kernel 2.4 carries pwc 8.11 webcam module. I need to uprate to 9 or better. Does anybody know of EXACT (newbie-proof) instructions for dong this? For pwc 9.0- it looks like some sort of file exchange plus twiddling, putting in setpwc looks more difficult. Help appreciated.

I'm sorry I don't have a solution or guidelines for you, running a 2.4 kernel.

The pwc driver development has been taken over by someone else after 0.9 was out and the maintainer just stopped.
This new driver is located here: http://www.saillard.org/linux/pwc/ and I have Slackware 10.1 and 10.2 packages for the 0.10 release of pwc here: http://www.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/pwc/
Note that the new driver is only for 2.6 kernels, and the developer states that the patches he made for the 2.4 kernel are not tested at all.

You might want to consider switching to a 2.6 kernel if you want to keep using PWC?

Thanks for the reply. Slack 2.6 keeps falling over on my target system, and Fedora core won't even install because it goes for xstart far too early in the build process, and its dealing with an embedded Cyrixmedia chipset. My only current options seems to be to install 2.4.26 from slack, and try patching with Nemosofts pwc9.0.2 and pwcx9.0. If that doesn't work then I have to try the 2.4.31 patches form saillard. This is a lot of work for a newbie trying to get a miserable little tilt and pan webcam up and working!!!!
