pure web server (without X)
hi,
which packages i must install if i'd like use slack (9.0) as web server (apache + php + mysql)? i'd like pure server installation without waste packages (gnome, kde, ........) thanks a lot qci -- newbee linux user :)) |
Well if your installing Slack for the first time, then just perform a custom install or a menu, expert install where you choose what packages to install.. from there you can install all the base requirements and skip installing Gnome, KDE and X... and so on..
You'll see what is required and what isn't, during the install, basically don't select X, Gnome and KDE and maybe games.. etc. |
When I did the software install for my home server I installed the Debian base and used apt-get to install required software. Apt-get will automatically add needed deps, which makes it very easy to do this.
I am thinking Slack does not do this offhand and you may need to either check on dependencies before install or work backwards from error codes as you go. Besides the bare minimum of what you want to run, it is also useful to install tools to help you work with your install. Possibly, Webmin, SSH, Midnight Commander, your prefered text editor and such. |
I've done I nice webserver install in under 500 megs usually... I wrote some tag files I believe if anyones interested, I'll have to find them again.
