pulseaudio

Hi All,

My laptop has been running without any serious problems for far too long. It's time to install pulseaudio for kicks.

I've installed the dependencies and pulseaudio using sbopkg. I made a pulse group and user as suggested on the slackbuild page. Now, when I start pulseaudio it looks for /var/lib/pulse (the home directory for user pulse), but can't find it because it isn't there. I can only make the /var/lib/pulse as root, but if i do that then user pulse can't use it. I could chown the pulse directory, but I'm not sure what issues are presented by this. Any thoughts?

I have /var/lib/pulse set as the pulse users $HOME in /etc/passwd, but that directory doesn't exist on my system and yet pulseaudio works just fine. Are you sure pulseaudio isn't starting up and that this is the reason it's not starting?

When I do /etc/rc.d/rc.pulseaudio start I get:

Code:
E: [pulseaudio] core-util.c: Failed to stat home directory /var/lib/pulse: No such file or directory
Starting pulseaudio...
W: [pulseaudio] authkey.c: Failed to open cookie file '/var/lib/pulse/.pulse-cookie': No such file or directory
W: [pulseaudio] authkey.c: Failed to load authorization key '/var/lib/pulse/.pulse-cookie': No such file or directory
No protocol specified
E: [pulseaudio] client-conf-x11.c: xcb_connection_has_error() returned true
E: [autospawn] core-util.c: Failed to stat home directory /var/lib/pulse: No such file or directory
W: [autospawn] lock-autospawn.c: Cannot access autospawn lock.
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Failed to acquire autospawn lock
It seems to be looking for /var/lib/pulse..I'm not sure of the significance of this though.

Ahhh, I'm not running it as a system service. I don't even have an /etc/rc.d/rc.pulseaudio file. I don't see why there would be any harm in creating /var/lib/pulse and chown'ing it to the pulse user.

Pulseaudio will need a pulse group/user to run. You can add one with
# groupadd -g 216 pulse
# useradd -u 216 -g pulse -d /var/lib/pulse pulse
or something similar. See http://slackbuilds.org/uid_gid.txt

Pulseaudio requires libatomic_ops, libsamplerate, and libsndfile.
It will also make use of jack-audio-connection-kit. All of these
dependencies are available at SlackBuilds.org.
Want to use pulseaudio pull it from the GSB builds have fun
