Proper use of ndiswrapper

I suspect I am confused on the use of ndiswrapper.
I thought I followed the instructions but...
I can modprobe the ndiswrapper but modinfo shows nothing about the rtl8192cu driver just ndiswrapper.
If I modprobe rtl8192cu I get:
FATAL: Module rtl8192cu not found.
I can see the AP but am unsuccessful in connecting.

I would like to ping the access points around me but so far haven't been able to learn how to do that. Does one need to be connected to the AP in order to ping it?
Does "link is not ready" mean it is my fault due to ill configuration, connection refused, timeout, or the AP is down?
Too many possibilities. Thanks for any suggestions

My advice would be to drop ndiswrapper. There was a recent thread on the rtl8192cu http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...er-4175486756/

I scanned the reference but did not see anything in regards to ndiswrapper. I see there are/may be some problems with Realtek drivers and the rtl8188 chipset. Can you be more specific why to drop ndiswrapper and not try different rtl driver?

I got the EDUP EP-N8505 nano because it was low cost an supported all bands. The box says it supports 802.11n so I guess Amazon is unaware of the false advertising by the manufacturer. SOP for Chinese manufacturing lie and claim English is difficult.

Why use a kludge when you can build a native Linux kernel module?

I consider Realtek Semiconductor Corp to be a reputable company. With the right kernel module you will get 802.11n operation.

That's reasonable. The package came with windoz rtl8192 driver so figured since I had never used ndiswrapper that it was an opportunity to try it. Are there instructions somewhere on installing the Realtec driver for linux?

Anyhow, I have no bearing on the vendor's driver, and only have sympathy if it doesn't work on 14.1 or whatever you are doing. I highly recommend upgrading your kernel to 3.13.xx at least or later and grab the latest firmware.

I suggest that you first try using the latest version of the open source driver.
You can build the latest version of the open source driver for your current kernel using the instructions shown here. https://backports.wiki.kernel.org/in.../Documentation

If you still experience problems, then try building the proprietary driver.
