Proper Boot Option: Root For Floppy Install -Libretto110CT

Hi,

Trying to install Slack10 on my ol' Libretto 110CT subnote....

Using external PCMCIA Toshiba floppy drive and an external PCMCIA EXP 2400P CDRW/DVD drive.

Problem with ol' Librettos is you can't boot up with CD drives only floppy or hard drive...

Also, don't have a desktop PC to temporalily install hard drive in and to install Slack onto it that way....

Made boot floppies:

Disk 1: scsi2.s
Disk 2: Install.1
Disk 3: Install.2
Disk 4: PCMCIA.DSK

Can boot into first part of install OK with Disk 1. Asks what boot options I want if any.

First time I tried, I just typed scsi2.s. After a bunch of text, good error message that said I needed to specify boot option with 'root=xxxx'....

So tried entering: scsi2.s mount root=/dev/hda1

This was a suggestion listed after the error message...

Again, got same error message....

So, would greatly appreciate if someone could advise as to:

1) Was 'scsi2.s' a good choice for boot disk?

2) If not, what would you recommend?

3) What should I enter for the boot option???

4) Any other suggestions??

Thanks for any advice!

Mark

Well, since no one responded to my previous post, decided to try hard drive install instead...

Copied over Slackware CD over to my WindowsXP 'C' drive.

Booted up with Win98SE floppy boot disk into DOS.

Typed:

loadlin bzimage root=/dev/ram initrd=initrd.img rw load_ramdisk=10000

Get lots of text displayed then....

'Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount rootfs on 01:00'

Anyone have any suggestions???

Again, problem with old Libretto is that you can't boot from CD....
Also, don't have another PC to put hard drive into to install onto either....

Appreciate any help PLEASE!

Thanks,

Mark

Decided to try install from boot floppy again....

tried using bare.i and lowmem.i boot floppies...

Problems with both...

bare.i boot floppy:

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-2, erno=2
VFS: Insert root floppy disk to be loaded into RAM and press ENTER

(Inserted PCMCIA root floppy and pressed ENTER)

kmod: failed to exec /sbin/modprobe -s -k block-major-2, erno=2
VFS: Cannot open root device "fd0u1440" or 02:00
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 02:00

Similar problem with lowmem.i boot floppy....

Would REALLY APPRECIATE some input please...

Thanks!

Mark
