Im running Slackware 9.1. So far I can FTP to the server and get a connection, so I know proftpd is running. But what I want to accomplish is a login FTP that allows read and write access whom have a seperate bunching of files, as well as an ananymous account (and its means of putting files into this account). The proftpd web site was absloutely no help to me, it talks about the config files, but I need more help than that.
From what I understand (I'm guessing), I need to create a directory owned by the login user and group, as well as for the ananymous, and set their permission levels accordingly. Beyond that speculation, I have never been so lost in my life (man, I thought VB 6.0 was hard...).
So if anyone can stomach yet another FTP setup (I also did a forum search, none where a help to me either), I would appreciate someone holding my hand and babying me through this.
I know that, but the config options and files are way over my head, and what do I have to do other than that? How do I go about arranging directorys to put files in? If I can't figure this out, then I'll format the drive and run Win95 and WSFTP.
Afaik as long as u r in the ftp session, us can use the unix commands preceed it with "!". So if u can login as a specific user other than anonymous say usera, then u can created a specific directory into the public upload space something like usera-space n put yer download there, change the permission like "! chomd 700 usera-space" for restrict access only to usera.
Actually as long as u logged in as specific user, that user can float the entire filesystem tree, n write thing there where casual user have write permission, typically in his own directory. If he wonna share this just make the permission to the directory accessible from all.
