problems with X and the 2.6 kernels.

Hi!

I compiled my first linux kernel, 2.6.13, yesterday and it works, for the most part. Everything is fine besides KDE. I start it up and everthing is fine. Then, it says that /dev/dsp was not found because /dev/dsp isn't there for some reason. And then KDE freezes and i get a Black screen.

So i uninstalled the 2.6.13 kernel and installed the 2.6.10 kernel from the /testing directory. Now, KDE doesn't freeze but the backgrounds of the windows aren't drawn. So when there are two windows on top of one another, I can see through the first one and into the second.

This is driving me crazy. I really need 2.6 to install a ZyDas driver for my wireless network.

Any help will be much appreciated.

For the /dev/dsp not found :

is /etc/rc.d/rc.udev executable ?
is /etc/rc.d/rc.alsa executable ?
is /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug executable ?
