problems with tweaking samba

hello everyone,
this is my smb.conf

# Samba config file created using SWAT
# from 192.168.0.65 (192.168.0.65)
# Date: 2006/05/09 17:31:59

[global]
server string = Ocean
update encrypted = Yes
log file = /var/log/samba.%m
max log size = 50
ldap ssl = no
admin users = root
hosts allow = 192.168.0., 127.

[homes]
comment = Home Directories
valid users = nass, lan
read only = No
browseable = No

[tmp]
comment = Temporary file space
path = /tmp
read only = No
guest ok = Yes

[mp3s]
comment = music folder
path = /mp3s
valid users = nass
read only = No

consider this in relation to a winXP network.
im confused as to why if i log on as user 'root' from winXP network places, all three folders /root , /tmp , /mp3s are visible BUT
- if i double click on the mp3s folder i am asked to provide a username and password.. (remember i am 'admin user' in [global] section).. and despite my efforts to log on as either the root or the user 'nass' i still dont get access to the folder... of course if i add 'root' as a 'valid user' in [mp3s] i do get to have access... but shouldnt i have it as 'admin user' ?
note that the /mp3s folder owner is user 'nass' in the group 'users'
- if i double click on /root i am again asked to provide username and password but again logging into the folder fails...

should i make these folders public? would that help?

thanks you for ur help

What are the actual file permissions on these folders?

"valid users = " means exactly that. The fact that you're logged on as the root user does not mean anything in this context.
