problems with my kernel....

Hello,

I just recently installed slack on my machine, and wanted to install a fresh customized kernel on it. I read the whole the thread on newbie kernel installed, and followed all the instructions. The problem im having is when i got to the make commands, and when i try it shoots out a 'command doesn't exist' or something equivalent. I did a search and nothing, maybe im missing something or the make comes with the kernel. Any help is very much appreciated.

Also make sure you're trying to make when logged in as root.

Maybe that'll help.

You dont want to install from the cd unless you have the latest version of slackware 9.1.

Also, you can only do
Make menuconfig
make dep
make bzImage

When your IN the source directory. if its being all funky. get the source from www.kernel.org and get your kernel source from there.

Like example
You can unpack the source but cant run the script.
cd /your/kernel/source/directory/

then try running the commands for there

Thanks for trying to help but still nothing....heres a little info...I installed slackware 9.1 and used the boot floppy kernel. im guessing happens to be 2.4.20 because thats the one thats under /usr/src. I downloaded linux-2.4.22.tar.gz from kernel.org and in linux did the following...

gzip -cd linux-2.4.22.tar.gz | tar xvf -
cd /linux-2.4.22
..inside linux directory....
make menuconfig
-bash: make : command not found
make config
...
make oldconfig
...
etc
etc

So i have no idea what to do next. Can i download the make command from somewhere or reinstall just that command off of the cd? by the way i got the iso from linuxiso.org, don't know if that helps...maybe i did somethings wrong during installation.

Thanks again,
Sion
