problems with multibit

I've been pissfarting around with btc again for the first time in over 3 years, created a wallet using multibit (stupid mistake - in the past I'd always had the whole chain on my computer using the original client but god knows how big that is now).

I can't get to my wallet using the password I give, even though I'm pretty sure it's correct (lots of people having issues on that front) but to recover I type all my words an get "validated" or whatever, and then it just sits there and does nothing. Run from shell showing the bits that matter I get:

Code:
[2017-07-23 10:18:34,707] DEBUG [AWT-EventQueue-0] o.m.h.u.v.c.p.LightBoxPanel - Light box panel added to application frame
[2017-07-23 10:18:37,862] INFO [AWT-EventQueue-0] o.m.h.u.v.w.AbstractWizard - Showing wizard panel: RESTORE_PASSWORD_SEED_PHRASE
[2017-07-23 10:25:25,758] DEBUG [AWT-EventQueue-0] o.m.c.c.SafeExecutors - New fixed thread pool with 1 threads: 'restore-password'
[2017-07-23 10:25:25,761] INFO [AWT-EventQueue-0] o.m.h.u.v.w.AbstractWizard - Showing wizard panel: RESTORE_PASSWORD_REPORT
[2017-07-23 10:25:25,800] DEBUG [safe-fixed-restore-password-0] o.m.h.u.v.w.w.RestorePasswordReportPanelView - Converting seed phrase to seed...
[2017-07-23 10:25:25,892] DEBUG [safe-fixed-restore-password-0] o.m.h.u.v.w.w.RestorePasswordReportPanelView - Restoring password for Trezor soft wallet: false
Any way to recover btc using something other than multibit? - I have all my words, and they validate, but I can't reset the pswd.
