Problems with modem and battery

Hi everybody!
I have installed Slackware 10.1 with kernel 2.6.11.8 on my Acer TravelMate 2300 laptop and everything went fine , except battery and modem.
1-When i try to see my battery status using acpid it gives an error saying that the device is busy. When i go to Control Center , and go to battery it gives me a "Partial ACPI Installation".I have compiled my kernel several times just for battery to work. The first time i installed only ACPI (not APM) and everything as modules. The second time (as the first didn't work) i installed all the options into the kernel ( the "*" option). The same error msg.Any ideas?
2-The second problem has to do with the modem.I know this can be resolved , because i had it working before ( before formatting , because i wanted to try Fedora , but didn't like it so returned to slack ).I hava a "WinModem" and before formatting , i just downloaded the drivers from linmoedem.org (the HSF modem drivers) and after installing it created a link to /dev/modem and everything worked. Now (after formatting) i did the same exact things , installed the prog and when i give hsfconfig (the command for configuring the modem) it says "device not found".How is this possible??If u have any ideas on how to solve this problems please answer. Thanks in advance.

Moreover, regarding the battery problem, did you try compiling another kernel?
