problems with hplip-3.5.7

After upgrading hplip from 3.15.2 to 3.15.7, my printer (HP Laserjet Professional P1102) did not work, an appropriate driver was not found, and I was asked (from hplip toolbox) to download one. But the download did never end, and hplip seemed to be frozen.
After reinstalling hplip-3.15.2 my printer worked again.
It seems that something is broken in the plugin management in hplip-3.15.7.

Are you using -current? There was a report of hplip-3.15.2 requiring PyQT4-4.11.4 which entered -current along with hplip-3.15.7 on 14-Aug-2015 http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...2/#post5405000

I have a HP Color LaserJet MFP M476DW and it works fine (printing/scanning) after reinstalling the plugin from the GUI.

From the log of my script that tracks orphaned files/dirs/symlinks these look related to the hplip plugin install:

rm -rf /etc/cups /usr/share/hplip
slackpkg install cups cups-filters hplip

Hi ivandi,

I have done this also, and I have been told that a proprietary driver is required:

Driver: HP LaserJet Professional p1102, hpcups 3.15.7, requires proprietary plugin (color)

(the strange thing is that this printer is monochrome). When I try to download this driver, in the recommended way, nothing happens.

Rebuilding hplip 3.15.4 (.2 not support my printer) works fine.

@Toutatis

foo2zjs supports HP LaserJet Pro P1102. I used it some years ago with HPLJ1020 and it worked fine. No need for hplip. foo2zjs.SlackBuild

Cheers

@ivandi

I know foozjs, and I have used it with hplip-3.15.2.
Now I have tried this:
- uninstall hplip
- install foo2zjs
- install my printer in CUPS
and my printer works again. I can even reinstall hplip-3.15.7, but some useful HP tools, such as hp-levels, do not work anymore, as they did with hplip-3.15.2.
But it is impossible to make foo2zjs work with hplip-3.15.7 already installed, it it necessary to remove it before. Maybe it is because HP P1102 is supposed to be supported in hplip-3.15.7 (but is not really), and some files interfere.

The new package hplip-3.15.7-x86_64-2 did not solve the problem. It is still impossible to install the appropriate plugin.
I have uninstalled hplip, and use again foo2zjz, which works.

In my case it worked.

But I had to install the plugin with graphical frontend, the command line hpsetup gave error.
